The Forgotten Eldora
![]() |
| No traffic lights in Eldora, just a stop sign in an empty street. |
Most people remember the nearby ski resort, just a few such a small village of Colorado. This place is nested in a canyon carved by glaciers from the last ice age. Eldora was once Eldorado and before that El Dorado. A shiny gold camp. The booming mining town of the 1890s is home now to less than two hundred souls. I did a short stop at the sleeping site to get this picture after a hike to Lost Lake. This is the only stop sign on main street. Imagine rush hour.
