Blue Bird Mine: Silver and Movie Set

Old building at the Blue Bird Mine near Nederland, Colorado
One of the buildings of this old mine of Colorado (a classic one).

The mine is at the end of a trail in the Caribou Ranch. Its history began in the 1870s when silver was found in North Boulder Creek. Tourists came in the early 1900s in the "Switzerland Trail of America" railroad (the attraction ended in 1919). Three movies shot here: Arabians of the Rockies and Sons of Courage of the 1940s, and Stagecoach from 1965. Why the Blue Bird name? From the blue mineral called azurite.
