Why do I enjoy reading old books?

Like the author Oliver Goldsmith wrote in The Vicar of Wakefield- affiliate link to Amazon.

I love everything that is old; old friends, old times, old manners, old books and old wines.

The past is a teacher that complements the present. Old books are a collective vault of experiences that you only need to know how to open.

Discovering old unpopular books feels like an archeological adventure. There is joy in the process of looking and finding forgotten gems - those surprises that make you see some modern publications as regurgitations with a twist.

We all know that knowing about the past is important but, what about the future? Leave it to dreams, fiction, and imagination.

And yes, I also like old wines.
