Cubans that fought in the American Civil War

Some Cubans fought in the American Civil War. The most notable was Colonel Ambrosio José González, the highest-ranking Cuban that served in the war. He was the Chief of artillery of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida for the Confederate Army.

Previously, González joined Narciso López in his expeditions to liberate Cuba from Spain. He was shot in a leg, and it's said that became the first Cuban to shed blood fighting for the independence of the island.

After the failed incursion in Cuba, he became an American citizen
