Hike to the Crags: A Summit of Naked Rocks
![]() |
| End of the trail at the summit of The Crags of Colorado in the fall of 2025. |
Rocky spot on the western slopes of Pikes Peak (Pike-San Isabel National Forest). Trailhead is ~3 miles from nearest paved highway. Narrow road, rough drive, and small parking lot. Trail diverges towards the Devils Playground and Pike Peak - I didn't go there. The Celtic word "crag" means steep, rugged, or cliff. The route tracks the Fourmile Creek. Rusty-colored granite columns, rock spires, and pinnacles along the way - also a beautiful meadow. Views of Pikes Peak, Sentinel Point, Raspberry Mountain, and the Sangre de Cristo range from the summit. My elevation reading = 10,765 feet. Hiked distance ~5 miles.
