Ward: A Historic Mountain Town

Utica Street in the city of Ward, Colorado.
Stop by Utica Street, one of the main streets of the old town (I took this photo from Columbia Street).

Historical place on the scenic Peak to Peak Highway at the front range of the Rockies (elevation over 9,000 feet). This was the place of the gold claim of Calvin Ward in 1860 that became the largest mining town of Boulder County. A fire destroyed most buildings in 1900, but it recovered four years later. The Switzerland Trail of American Railroad brought the tourists. I saw some shadows of the town past.
