Moose near Blue Lake

| The closer moose pretending to ignore me. They don't fear humans and now in the breeding season (Sept-Oct) are dangerous. |
There were two having a feast near the end of this trail in Brainard Lake Recreation Area. They took a look to these weird bipedal creatures and returned to their eating. Colorado had a few moose back in the 1970s. They were reintroduced. This is the largest deer: 6' tall, 800-1200 pounds, and antlers up to 5' wide shed every winter (they regrow each year like happens to the elk). They are Shiras moose (Alces alces shirasi). Walden is the "Moose Viewing Capital" of Colorado. We haven't gone there (yet).
