The Historic Cape Florida Lighthouse

| Cape Florida Lighthouse in Key Biscayne. |
This island close to Miami has seen all: Indians, Spanish conquerors, escaped slaves, and even pirates. Ponce de Leon named it Santa Marta in 1513. Later became Cayo VizcaĆno and jumped to English as Key Biscayne. Mary Ann Davis paid $100 for the island after it became part of the US in 1821. The original Cape Florida Lighthouse was built in 1825. The Seminole burned it eleven years later and came back to life in 1847. Now pretty safe inside Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. Popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Nice beach on the Atlantic side.
