The Three Breasts of the Tetons
![]() |
| The Tetons (originally "Les Trois Tétons", the "The Three Breasts" in English). |
What a French name for such majestic peaks. A dramatic piece of rock in one of the youngest mountain ranges of the United States (uplifting for less than 10 million years, a baby compared to the Rockies or the ancient Appalachian Mountains). John Colter was the first known person of European descend to see Yellowstone and the Teton Range. The scout is mentioned in the journal of Lewis and Clark (entries for August 14 and 15, 1806).
