Widowmakers: The Forest Killers

| Widowmaker on a trail of northern Georgia. |
A fallen "widowmaker" laying on the trail. This is the summit of Fort Mountain in Northern Georgia. Cold day of the fall with low clouds. Misty rain icing the bones. "Widowmaker" is rooted in forestry. Some say that loggers in Australia used the word for the Eucalyptus, a tree notorious for its large limbs falling without warning. I’ve met a couple of falling "widowmakers" in trails. The silent killers of the forest.
